Roz Johnson

Our award winning Roz presents Out To Lunch with Silver Seniors as well as the general Thursday Out To Lunch. In 2018 Roz won a well deserved Silver at the national Community Radio Awards in the 'presenter over sixty' category.

Roz tells her story:

The seed of radio interest germinated after World War II. Using my father's short wave radio, I listened to lists of missing persons in Europe.  My husband's work brought us to Manchester in 1975 for three years......I'm still here! Deep down a Geordie, but now a very happy Mancunian, I return to my large family and native Northumberland frequently.

Seeking new friends, I joined Manchester Hospital Radio, broadcasting to twenty eight hospitals. After interviewing the then Anchor of the BBC Today programme Brian Redhead, He told me to go and see the producer of Radio 4's Woman's Hour.  I then freelanced interviews for them, but this had to end when I resumed a full time job in the hospitality industry, and eventually retired as Head  of Hospitality at The Manchester College.

I also read for those with no or very little sight at the RNIB, it could be anything from Shakespeare to washing machine instructions.

Finally a course at Wfm, then a show. I'm probably one of the oldest Radio presenters around but I love it............researching content, meeting so many people from the spin offs, and so important ..........working with younger people who don't treat me like an old bat.

Immensely proud of 2 daughters, 8 Gr. Kids, 12 Grt. Gr. Kids. And 1 Grt. Grt. Gr. Kid soon.
